Dear Friends,
How much has your life changed in the last 4 months? Sabera’s life changed a LOT! She took a 4 month Mobile Literacy Class at an AIL Learning Center and can now read and write!
She had this to say, “ I am 22 years old and married with 2 children. Before attending the class, I always wanted to learn writing and reading because I felt embarrassed and ashamed all the time that I couldn’t do it. I did not enjoy my life, but since coming to this class, my life has changed and there is nothing I am ashamed of now. Besides, I am very proud of myself that I can handle my own daily problems. I can read, write, count and communicate well. Today I realize the value of knowledge. I am no longer blind and mute. I can enjoy my life. I am definitely going to attend regular school after this class and make a bright future for myself and my children. At the end I really want to thank AIL for their great services providing us with such vital classes.”
She started the course not even knowing the alphabet and now she texts her friends sharing her ideas and she goes to the market confident she can read the signs and prices. It does not take much to create a transformation in a life. In the most recent classes, 182 students went through the mobile literacy curriculum with 144 attaining Grade 4 literacy, 32 Grade 3 and 6 Grade 2 by the end of the course. So 79% of the students went from little or no literacy to Grade 4!
Thank you for supporting this worthwhile project. Please read the attached CHI 2015 Newsletter featuring AIL for information on activities last year.
