Dear Friends,
In April AIL started up its 2016 Mobile Literacy Program with 5 classes for 30 students each, totaling 150 students. The students are all female and range in age from 15 to 47 and will spend 4 months going through this intensive, accelerated literacy learning experience alongside regular literacy study.
The classes start with the basics of learning how to use the mobile phone and learning the alphabet. The students range in ability from no alphabet knowledge, to reading a little, up to reading at first grade level. The transformation in reading skill will be remarkable by the end of the 4 months. As always the students love this curriculum – who doesn’t love texting, especially if you are teen or young adult?
"I am Madina, an 18 years old girl. I had a very difficult and painful life in the past. I didn’t have any hope in my life until I came to this mobile literacy class. I met a lot of interesting girls in this class from the start of the first month. I learned to read the alphabet and to handle a cell phone. I am so happy for this opportunity to attend this class. I am going to regular school after this class is over.”
Thank you for your support for mobile literacy.
