As Afghans face an ongoing humanitarian crisis, they are also recovering from the devastating earthquake that struck their country in June.

Your swift support of the Afghanistan Earthquake Relief Fund has been critical in meeting the needs of displaced communities and those grieving the loss of their loved ones.

Thanks to your donation, three high-impact nonprofit organizations were able to use their expertise to quickly serve Afghan children and families in need.

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • The HALO Trust, which specializes in demining, used its machinery to remove rubble and aid emergency response efforts in the Gayan and Barmal districts of Paktika province. HALO Trust’s teams also transported more than 100 people injured in the earthquake to urgent treatment facilities. The organization coordinated with United Nations agencies and local partners to shelter displaced Afghan families and provided food and water supplies.
  • Action for Development (AfD) is distributing food and water and providing sanitation and hygiene services to support Afghans recovering from the earthquake. As an organization founded by Afghans, AfD is acutely aware of the immediate and longer-term needs of impacted communities.
  • The International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation (IBC), which has been working in Afghanistan for many years, jumped into action following the earthquake to identify community needs. The organization is coordinating with Afghan authorities to deliver tents, kitchen sets, and blankets from Kabul to the earthquake zone. IBC also distributed hygiene kits and dry food packages to survivors.

Your support of the GlobalGiving Afghanistan Earthquake Relief Fund is powering community-led responses and delivering life-saving aid to Afghans. And the need remains enormous for impacted communities across the region—especially with a harsh winter only months away. As our partners’ incredible work continues, we will share another update about how your donation is making a difference.

With gratitude,

Kyra + the GlobalGiving Team
