Kobby, 14 years old, lives near the river bank with Ama, his younger cousin. Kobby was trafficked to work on the lake at a very young age and never attended school. Like most child victims of trafficking forced to work in fishing boats on Lake Volta, Kobby was subjected to long working hours and inhumane conditions.
After being rescued, Kobby went to live near his grandfather and was enrolled in school. He is now one of the top three students of his class, is self-motivated, and studies hard. He writes his own stories, which he shares with his teachers. He is also a talented artist, and dreams of becoming an illustrator.
After school, Kobby takes care of his younger cousin, and earns money for them both by selling pure water, which he stores in a fridge provided to his family through the support of donations.
As one of his teachers describes him: “[Kobby] is very good, intelligent, and he is ready to learn. Anything you ask him to do he is ready to do that. So, I think you should help him and by God’s grace he will move forward in life”. With the generous contribution of many donors such as yourself, Kobby can be supported in continuing with his education and look forward to a better future.
