Korku
Fifteen-year-old Korku is soft-spoken, mostly keeps to himself, and does not speak much about his past as a former child victim of trafficking. His excitement, however, is manifest when asked about his favourite activity, football. Even though his school does not have a football field, he visits a nearby school to use their field. Korku has a dream to become a professional footballer, however, he first needs to complete junior and senior high schools, after which he hopes to enroll in a soccer academy in the capital city of Accra. As eager as he is to get to the soccer field each day, he understands the importance of his education and applies himself diligently. According to his teacher, Korku is hardworking, faithful, obedient and a natural leader who contributes substantively and meaningfully in class.
Korku was trafficked by his mother to a fisherman in the Volta Region, for whom he worked for two years. Although he has been reunited with his mother after his rescue, his mother continues to struggle to support herself and is therefore unable to take care of him. With the generous support from donors like you, Korku attends a boarding school.
Providing for Korku’s boarding costs more, of course, but it affords Korku many benefits. While some children must walk hours each day to attend school or skip school entirely, Korku is able to focus on his coursework and self-development.
Your continued generous contributions will help keep Korku in boarding school to pursue his dream of an education and also eventually become a professional footballer.
