Borno's children have lost years of education to conflict, putting their futures at immediate risk. This project provides urgent after-school tutoring for 250 at-risk students, bridging critical learning gaps in literacy and numeracy. We provide safe spaces, supplies, and mentorship to prevent dropouts and protect vulnerable youth from radicalization. Your support ensures these children do not become a "lost generation" but instead grow into educated community leaders.
Over a decade of insurgency in Borno has left schools destroyed and classrooms overcrowded, often with 100 students per teacher. Many children cannot read or write at grade level and are at imminent risk of dropping out. Without academic support, these idle, uneducated youths become prime targets for exploitation and recruitment into extremist groups. The public school system is overwhelmed and cannot provide the individual attention these trauma-affected children desperately need.
We provide intensive, small-group remedial classes for 250 students aged 6-15, focusing on English, Math, and trauma support. Our solution utilizes local, compassionate tutors who understand the cultural context to provide mentorship alongside academics. We create a secure learning environment and supply essential textbooks, stationery, and backpacks. This holistic approach ensures children catch up academically while feeling safe, valued, and motivated to stay in school.
Education is the strongest weapon against extremism. By keeping 250 children in school and improving their literacy, we drastically reduce the risk of early marriage and radicalization. These educated children will grow into employable adults and peacebuilders, breaking the cycle of poverty in Borno. Ultimately, this project empowers a generation to rebuild their community, ensuring long-term stability and economic recovery for the region.
