MECA staff and volunteers distributed 1,500 backpacks with hygiene kits to school children in Gaza this year. These sturdy backpacks were made at a local factory in Gaza which provides income to tens of families. The funds for this project were donated by Zam Zam Water, PaliRoots and MECA supporters.
One child told MECA staff: “My brother Amir and I share one backpack. Amir goes to school in the morning shift and I go in the afternoon shift. Every day I wait for Amir to come back from school then take his bag, put my books and pens and rush to school often late. I am very happy because for the first time I have my own bag and go to my school early and eager to study.”
