Dear Readers,
Once again Songtaba is delighted to update you on our work on ending violence against women accused of witchcraft in the northern region of Ghana. Before the end of the year 2016, Songtaba is happy to report that a total of 12 alleged witches have been successfully re-intgrated out of the target of 20 and all of them are doing well in their respect homes after the team visited them to assess their life after re-inetgration.
This time round, we will like to focus the report on Abdul Somed Abibata who stayed in the Kukuo alleged witch camp for the past 15 years untill her successful re-integration in November, 2016. Abibata who is now 57 years of age and now living with her family had this to share with reader/donars who's contribution supported in her re-integration.
'... life in the camp was a living hell compared to life now at home. Inside the camp, we lacked so many basic things including good food. I had no light in the room i was staying in in the camp, but now i even get the opportunity to watch TV and also follow what is happening in Ghana and the rest of the world.'
Abibata has been supported with a small livelihood grant by Songtaba through the donations made which she has been able to start a small 'on table shop' where she sell suger, Tea bag, toffees, soap and other basic things people normally buy. The project management team trained all the women who had been re-integrated and supported with livelihood grants in resource management so that they will be able to monitor the growth of their business.
thank you for reading and we hope to come with another ineteresting edition of our work with women in our next report
