Our Spring Cohort of 11 participants are nearing the end of the program. Our learning days and placements continued even under the protracted US-Israel war with Iran. We are grateful they chose to stay on the ground where they are volunteering with partners at Tent of Nations, Rabbis for Human Rights, The South Hebron Hills Storytelling Project, Gisha, and newer partners: the Sotna Music Project, which engages Palestinian youth through music and community-building, as well as Satyam, a Palestinian women-led center that brings Palestinians, Israelis, and internationals together for nonviolent activism.
We just returned from our South trip where we explored Palestinian Bedouin identity, the dynamics between the economic center and periphery in I/P, Mizrahi Identity, and the impact of October 7th on border communities. The cohort met with Bashir Al Ziyadna who spoke to Bedouin life in Rahat and unrecognised villages in the Negev and Hosniya - A Bedouin woman with a tatreez workshop, before spending a Shabbat in Kibbutz Revivim. On Saturday night we drove to Umm al Khair and joined the children’s protest of the recently constructed barbed wire fence which has blocked their path to school. We ended the trip by visiting Avi Dabush, Director of Rabbis for Human Rights, at his home in Kibbutz Nirim - one of the kibbutzim targeted on October 7th.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement with Achvat Amim - we are grateful to have you in our corner.
In solidarity,
Miriam
