Samjhana came to Ama Ghar six months after we opened our doors in 2001. As a child, she was active, curious, and challenging (in the best way!). The staff at Ama Ghar nurtured this spirit and curiosity with our emphasis on education, particularly for woman, and our policy of giving each individual child the tools they need to succeed at whatever career they choose. As she has grown into a young woman, Samjhana is still the adventurous, spirited, and outgoing person she was when she arrived — and she is finding success in a career that she is passionate about: tourism.
In 2019, while working on her Bachelor’s degree in Travel and Tourism, Samjhana and a few classmates started their own travel agency, TravelFeet Nepal. TravelFeet aimed to showcase underrated destinations in Nepal and offered treks and trips that highlighted the art, culture, and history of the country. Covid closures brought tourism in Nepal to a halt in 2020 and set her back a year in her studies and shuttered her agency.
However, Samjhana made the best of that time. She stayed at Ama Ghar, helping around the house and with the little ones. When asked, Samjhana described it as a “time for getting back to the family where I grew up and sharing wonderful times with the newer generations at Ama Ghar. This time at Ama Ghar made me realize and understand how amazing it was to be raised there.”
Samjhana also continued to work hard in her studies and earned her degree in 2021. She applied for internships across the globe and recently started a one-year internship at one of the top ski resorts in Park City, Utah. Through this internship, she is excited to gain a deeper understanding of international corporate operations in the hospitality industry. She loves it and is learning more every day.
Samjhana’s success is due to her hard work and perseverance, but your financial support has made it possible for her to pursue her dream. Perhaps even more importantly, knowing that there are people all over the world who are her Ama Ghar family and who believe in her gives her the confidence and the drive to do her very best. Thank you for all that you do to help our Ama Ghar family.
