An Update from Mama Dragons: Public Advocacy, Private Support
This year, more parents than ever have found their way to Mama Dragons through exactly the kind of support this project makes possible. Creating a space where mothers and caregivers of LGBTQ+ children can finally say the hard things out loud, to people who already understand, without having to explain themselves first has been critical.
The balance of speaking up loudly where it counts and holding families close where it matters most is how we operate every day. When it comes to advocacy, we're not going anywhere. We'll keep testifying at statehouses, writing op-eds, and putting parents' voices in front of the people making decisions about our kids' lives. That work has to stay public to be effective.
Support is different, and so is how we fund it. Inside our private, vetted community, families connect with other families walking the same road, not strangers on the internet, but people who show up for each other week after week. For a lot of our parents, groups like this one are the first place they've ever felt like they could exhale. As that support work has grown, we've also gotten more strategic about how we raise money to sustain it.
Your support has helped us move Mama Dragons forward into a space where we are a respected voice for our chlidren across all political and faith lines. We are growing into a national organization that truly has changed lives. Thank you for being part of that, and for trusting us to do this work in the way that keeps our families safest while keeping our voice loud where it needs to be.
This particular project is one we're bringing fully in house, so we can build closer, more direct relationships with the donors who make it possible and put more of every gift straight toward the families in this group. Going forward, we'll be focusing our GlobalGiving presence on one major campaign that runs all year long, rather than spreading appeals across individual projects like this one. GlobalGiving and this community of donors have meant so much to us, and that single, sustained campaign is how we intend to keep showing up here even as this project and others like it move to our own home.
Our year long campaign is The Power of Fierce Love: Changing Hearts and Minds and can be found right here on GlobalGiving. To continue giving to this particular program directly through either monthly or one time donations, you can donate here. We appreciate your support so mch as it is truly what sustains our work and supports our families.
With gratitude,
The Mama Dragons Team
