Learning Through play in the San Francisco Kindergarten

By Luciana Palacio | Project Leader

Since Covid-19 Pandemic started, life all around  the world has become difficult for everyone due to the illness itself and because of the confination policies that affected especially children's education. “San Francisco” Kindergarten and its students in Santa Fe city were no exception. Luckily, in 2021 school classes went back to normal and this institution proposed to invest the funds received from ACDI for the purchase of new games, bringing pupil more learning opportunities.

Early childhood development has significant importance in a person's maturing, as the second item of ONU’s Sustainable Development Goal 4, states. In preschool, playing is one of the most important ways in which toddlers gain essential knowledge and skills. For this reason, teachers have to create playing opportunities and environments for effective early childhood development programs.

Two slides;  board games and material to work on the floor area, school supplies kits, books and toys were bought. Each of these elements were chosen strategically by the management team and teachers staff, who stated that their aim is to promote children's motor skills, concentration and imagination.

It should also be noted that this institution, located in the southern area of the capital city of  Santa Fe Province, receives students who come from low-income families, who often do not have the resources for buying playing material or assisting to recreational activities complementary to school day. Having these games and material at school thanks to this project, contributes to their cultural and recreational development opportunities and rights.

Finally, the ACDI contribution in the kindergarten, also served to cover the costs of renovating and refurbishing the establishment building and  for the acquisition of a  soft playground, improving the school environment itself.
