Valentina's journey: learning, care, and hope

By Luciana Palacio | Project Leader

Valentina
Valentina

In a small rural community in southern Tucumán, Valentina is 7 years old and attends a public primary school supported by ACDI. Like many children in her community, she is growing up in a context marked by deep social and economic challenges.

She currently lives with her mother and three siblings in a very modest home, where they moved after a family separation that brought significant changes to their daily lives. This transition affected not only the family’s living conditions, but also their emotional well-being. Even at her young age, Valentina is aware of the difficulties her family faces and recognizes the constant efforts her mother makes to care for her children, even when resources are scarce.

Through our work in the territory, we know that situations like these often leave emotional marks: moments of sadness, uncertainty, and fears that are difficult for a child to express. That is why we believe that improving access to education goes beyond school attendance—it also means creating spaces of care, emotional support, and trust.

Through ACDI’s educational accompaniment program, Valentina now receives ongoing support from a caring adult who stays connected through letters, messages, and small gestures of encouragement. Each message conveys affection and hope, helping Valentina feel seen and valued. These simple but meaningful actions strengthen her self-esteem and nurture her confidence in the future.

Stories like Valentina’s remind us of the power of sustained, caring accompaniment. When a child feels supported and emotionally safe, new opportunities for learning and personal growth begin to emerge. In vulnerable contexts, access to education combined with strong human connections can make a lasting difference.
