Project Report | Sep 20, 2026
A safe space to create.

By Barbara Lewandowska | Project Leader

At To The Future Foundation, we believe it is our duty to make this difficult time in Poland at least a little lighter for the families, children, and elderly people from Ukraine who have come to us.

Since May, these art sessions have continued without pause. This mission has taken on even greater urgency in recent times. As pressure on Ukrainian migrants in Poland grows, many of the elderly women we work with have become afraid to speak their own language, afraid even to simply exist in the country that has become their temporary home. In this climate, the space we create together is more vital than ever - a place where they can gather without fear, express their worries and their longing for home through painting and shared creativity, and simply be seen as who they are.

For these women, the sessions offer far more than art. They create a space where they feel cared for, free from judgment, and safe. The paintings they create are often taken home to the rooms they rent - pieces they could never have afforded to make on their own, without the materials and the space we provide. For many, this is one of the few places where they can simply meet, be together, and create.
