Hi everyone! Hope you are well. This is Yoi who recently joined Ashoka Japan team. In the midst of chaos of COVID-19 and the injustice exposed by the incident with the death of George Floyd (and many others), we are determined even more to promote social change in many ways!
Our highlight of this month was a virtual visit of Senior Ashoka Fellow, Sascha Haselmayer who founded Citymart. Four Youth Venturers planned to visit him in March, but it was cancelled unfortunately because of the pandemic. Sascha generously agreed to talk with the four Youth Venturers virtually in the beginning of June.
The virtual visit went swiftly! The four Youth Venturers presented their social projects in English to Sascha and also asked many questions to this leading social entreprenuer in New York City who are creating impact all over the world!
One of the participants, Nori, said, "What left the biggest impression is about how to inspire people around us. I tend to persuade them with scientific basis. I noticed I have never tried to persuade people with emotional statements. When I'm going to talk with teachers next week, I'll try to do it. I was able to gain the power to proceed with my project. Thank you!"
Another participant, Shun, said, "I definitely got many things from the virtual meeting. When I read what Sascha has done, I felt like he is genius or something I never won't be able to be like. But I learned Sascha is not superman but one has empathy to never give up until solve social problem for people. I made my mind again strongly to my activity. I will keep doing my work as he said 'find one little progressive or achievement.'"
Meeting and talking to a prestigeous social entrepreneurs like Sascha is a precious opportunities to Youth Venturers, not only to keep moving forward with their projects, but also for planning for their future paths. It is our pleasure to provide such opportunities to Youth Venturers.
We will also keep moving forward, and your support will definitely make some different to our project and organization! Thank you so much, and have a good one!
Warm regards,
Yoi on behalf of Ashoka Japan Team
