Hello, this is Yoi from Ashoka Japan.
Thank you once again for your generous support to our Youth Venture. We are rigorously working toward providing a safe environment for Japanese youth to challenge as well as building a community for them to inspire each other.
Today, I would like to introduce one of our new Youth Venturers, Yuna.
Yuna was brouhgt up in an orphanage since the age of two. Until she graduated from a high school last March, she spent her entire life there. Unlike the general image to the prphanage that many people have, she enjoyed the "big family" like community that she grew up with.
There are two problems she wanted to solve: 1) how children in orphanages are lacing access to information; and 2) how people have negative image of orphanges.
In order to solve these two problems at the same time, Yuna planned a crowdfunding campaign online to raise money so that she can provide quality books to those orphanages. People who would contribute to the cause were instructed to read Yuna's blog post first before pitching in money. In the blog post, she wrote her honest impression and experience at the orphange. Yes, there is a structural problem of lacking resources in general, and, yes, her experience doesn't mean the same for all 600 orphanages in Japan. Yet, she wanted to share how nice and positive environment it was for her.
In the period of 40 days, the campaign ended successfully, with more than 37 Million JPY (= US$330,000+), supported by 5,400 people.
Now, she is connected to many people, including the former Administrative Vice-Minister of Labor thanks to this campaign. She is looking forward to working with those key people in the field to improve the situation that the children at orphanges are facing to.
