The MOTO Team have continued to facilitate the Moving Forwards project, which specifically focuses on the provision of custom-built assistive devices for those in need. The aim of this project is to increase the independence, safety, comfort, and service users who may otherwise be subject to restrictions and discomfort in their daily lives. The Moving Forwards Project currently receives referrals for the project from community networks and partners, and once service users are identified, a visit is conducted to assess for the assistive device (often wheelchair) required. This is visit is conducted with a qualified and registered volunteer therapist (occupational therapist or physiotherapist) and a wheelchair technician to ensure it is suitable for the functional and health needs of the service user.
The Moving Forwards project has provided 14 wheelchairs between December and the end of February for service users across Kilimanjaro region.
