Promoting Healthy Smiles: Dental Health Camp for Children at Prime Trust Evening School, Saram
Project Update: Community Health and Child Wellbeing
Prime Educational and Social Trust (Prime Trust), Puducherry, continues to work towards improving the health, education, and overall wellbeing of children from underserved communities. As part of our ongoing commitment to creating a healthy and supportive learning environment, Prime Trust organised a Dental Health Camp for students attending its Evening School in Saram, Puducherry, in collaboration with Vel Dental Clinic.
Good oral health is an essential part of a child’s overall development. However, children from economically disadvantaged families may not always have regular access to preventive dental care or adequate information about maintaining proper oral hygiene. Untreated dental problems can cause discomfort, affect eating and sleeping habits, and make it difficult for children to concentrate on their studies. Recognising the importance of early prevention, Prime Trust continues to promote awareness of basic healthcare practices among the children it serves.
Bringing Dental Care Closer to Children
The dental camp provided students with an opportunity to receive basic dental check-ups and learn more about maintaining healthy teeth and gums. The team from Vel Dental Clinic supported this initiative by helping children understand the importance of oral hygiene and preventive dental care.
Through simple and engaging guidance, the students were encouraged to practise healthy habits in their daily lives. These included brushing their teeth regularly and correctly, keeping their mouths clean, paying attention to oral health concerns, and seeking professional dental care whenever necessary.
The camp also helped reinforce an important message: healthcare is not limited to treating illnesses after they occur. Developing healthy habits from childhood can help prevent future problems and contribute to a healthier life.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
At Prime Trust, our Evening Schools provide more than academic support. They also offer opportunities for children to learn essential life skills, develop healthy behaviours, and build confidence. By integrating health awareness into our educational activities, we aim to support children’s development in a more holistic manner.
The dental camp was an example of how collaboration between community organisations and healthcare professionals can help bring essential health information closer to children and their families. Such partnerships strengthen community-based prevention efforts and encourage children to take greater responsibility for their own wellbeing.
A Partnership That Makes a Difference
Prime Trust extends its heartfelt gratitude to the team at Vel Dental Clinic for partnering with us and contributing their time and professional support to this initiative. Their involvement helped make dental health awareness an accessible and meaningful learning experience for the students.
We also acknowledge the generous support of our donors and well-wishers, whose contributions help Prime Trust continue its educational, healthcare, and community development programmes.
Help Us Create Healthier Futures
Every child deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive in good health. With continued support from our donors, volunteers, and community partners, Prime Trust hopes to expand health awareness initiatives and provide more children with opportunities to understand and practise healthy living.
Together, we can nurture healthier smiles, stronger communities, and brighter futures for children who need our support the most.
