Assistive devices for visually challenged

By Pooja | Communication Manager

We, Indian Association for the Blind (lAB), are based in South India and are a well-known non-profit organization working to provide education, employment, training and rehabilitation for the visually challenged from rural areas. Late Mr. S.M.A.Jinnah, the visually challenged activist and a group of like-minded visually challenged people founded IAB in 1985. Until today, we have benefited more than 11200 youths who have now proved to be productive members of society.

The drive has helped provide assistive devices to numerous Visually Challenged students over the years, rising close to 697 dollars since its inception, thanks to generous individuals and residents on behalf of them. This amount has helped us provide assistive devices such as Laptops, angel players, Net books and headphones to our beneficiaries. Technology has removed many barriers to education and employment for visually impaired individuals. They can now read the mail, listen to audio books, get step-by-step walking directions to unfamiliar places, record important information and so much more with special standalone devices designed for people with no or low vision.

Once again, we want to thank the philanthropist for their contributions and also the Global Giving who paved the way for us to utilize their donations from all over the world. We look forward to raising more for this cause. As always, we, along with Global Giving, will do our best in reaching out to generous donors across the Globe and will strive to bring happiness on the face of each of our beneficiaries.
