Aventureros Update: Learning and Growing Together
This season has been full of energy, learning, and connection for our Aventureros! Thanks to your generosity, local kids have been exploring their community, discovering the natural world, and developing leadership skills that will stay with them for life.
Throughout the summer, our Aventureros joined each of our visiting programs, playing games, leading beach cleanups, and pairing up as “reading buddies” to practice their English while helping visitors practice their Spanish. They’ve truly stepped into their roles as local conservation leaders, proudly sharing their home, language, and knowledge with guests from across North America.
In addition to their leadership in the community, Aventureros participated in first aid training, beach cleanups, guided nature hikes, and even whale shark research and monitoring, collecting data alongside our scientists and learning about the importance of community science in conservation. Each activity has helped them grow more confident, curious, and connected to the natural environment they’re helping protect.
A Note from Heidi (VSI’s Director of Programs)
I had the joy of spending a couple of months at the field station this summer, and it was one of the most inspiring seasons yet. It was incredible to see so many new Aventureros jumping in with such excitement, eager to learn, help, and be part of something bigger.
One of my favorite memories was International Whale Shark Day. Thanks to generous donations from supporters like you, we were able to take twelve Aventureros out on the pangas for their very first whale shark encounter! Their excitement was absolutely contagious, wide eyes, endless smiles, and pure awe as they watched these gentle giants glide beneath the surface. It was a moment I’ll never forget. You could see their compassion for this endangered species growing right before our eyes.
Moments like these remind me exactly why this program matters and how your support makes it all possible.
Thank you for believing in our mission and in these young conservation leaders. Because of you, the future of Bahía de los Ángeles shines brighter every day.
