Nationwide campaigns to promote organ donation

         Organizing nationwide campaigns to promote organ donation

 

Organ Donation Awareness Sessions/Events

Sessions/events on organ donation were organized face to face and on online platforms like Facebook, You Tube & zoom for participants belonging to the cities of Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Bengaluru, Belgaum, Trivandrum, Chennai, Hyderabad & Goa. The target audience were doctors, nurses, ICU & other hospital staff and nursing & medical. Sessions were held for school and college students of physiotherapy, engineering first aid course etc. Awareness was also created amongst police officers, army officers, corporate employees, members at old age homes, dialysis patients, caregivers & dialysis technicians, auto rickshaw drivers, shop owners, rotary club & Interact club members, NGOs & social workers, IMA doctors, Municipality staff, anganawadi and asha workers.In this quarter over 24000 people were reached through 209 sessions. 

 

Countrywide Celebration of ‘Organ Donation Week’ 

MOHAN Foundation’s offices across India, observed the Organ Donation Week from August 7 to 13, 2021. Multiple awareness talks, online sessions, stalls, information desks and Rangoli competition were organized to reach out to maximum people in order to sensitise them to the importance of organ donation and encourage them to pledge for the same. 

MOHAN Foundation Chennai team organized a unique photography contest which was held at Department of Social Work Stella Maris College, Chennai with the theme of organ donation. Close to 80 entries were received and the winners were announced on August 8, 2021. 

 

People Reached through E-newsletters

Close to 1,44,052 people were reached/educated through MOHAN Foundation’s monthly E-newsletters. 

 

Public Awareness through Community Radio Program

Large audiences were reached through various radio programmes aired on All India Rainbow FM Jalandhar, AIR Jaipur 101.2 FM & Arasu FM 90.4 MHz Kumbakonam in Tamil, Hindi & Rajasthani languages. The radio listeners were informed about MF Helpline number and encouraged to pledge for eye and organ donation.

On the special occasion of eye donation fortnight, MFJCF’s (MOHAN Foundation Jaipur Citizen Forum) radio programme on eye donation was broadcasted on 101.2 FM All India Radio for the villages in Rajasthan in Gram Bharti programme on August 29 & September 5, 2021. Another programme raising awareness on organ donation and promoting helpline number was broadcasted on October 16, 2021.

MOHAN Foundation tied up with Arasu FM 90.4 MHz to broadcast the message of organ donation through a play in Tamil that was aired twice in a day from September onwards and continued till October 2021.

 

MOHAN Foundation Organ Donation Helpline

MOHAN Foundation’s 24X7 helpline gives information on organ donation & transplantation, pan India in 8 languages. In this quarter, 1532 calls were facilitated by MOHAN Foundation’s executivesthat resulted in18 eye donations, 3 body donations and 3 skin donations from different states (Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka & West Bengal). It has been observed that more and more people are coming forward for tissue donation. One particular case from Kolkata donated corneasand the whole body. Uniqueness of this case was that the donor belonged to Kolkata, but the case was coordinated through helpline by MF Counsellor belonging to Chennai.

 

Organ Donation Facilitated by MOHAN Foundation’s Transplant Coordinators

In the current context of lockdown and restriction of movements, MOHAN Foundation’s transplant coordinators have constrained access to hospital visits, daily rounds in OPDs and ICUs. Despite these restrictions at the health care institutes due to Covid 19, MOHAN Foundation’s Transplant Coordinators continued their efforts in maximizing the number of donations (eyes, organs & body) thus saving lives of many people in their respective states in this quarter. A Total of 262 lives across India were saved through 237 corneal donations, 12 kidney donations, 7 liver donations, 4 lung donations & 2 heart donations.
