Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee, MOHAN Foundation wins SABERA Lifetime Achievement Award 2021
Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee, MOHAN Foundation has been awarded the SABERA Lifetime Achievement Award 2021 for his pioneering work in the field of organ donation. The same was announced at SABERA grand virtual summit on December 9, 2021. SABERA (Social and Business Enterprise Responsible) Awards, endeavors to acknowledge Purpose beyond Profit. It was launched by the UN Women awardee Simply Suparnaa.
Celebration of National Organ Donation Day – November 27, 2021
Donor Dash - A virtual run was organised by MOHAN Foundation on November 27, 2021 in dedication to the organ donors of India and their brave families. Run categories were 10 km Run, 7 km Run and 5K steps. 110 people participated in the virtual run.
Launch of the film #LiveLifeVarunSize - As part of India’s National Organ Donation Day celebration, Project ‘Gift Hope, Gift Life”, supported by SBI Foundation, funded by SBI Card, with MOHAN Foundation as the implementing partner, was inaugurated on November 29, 2021 by the Chairman of State Bank of India, Shri. Dinesh Kumar Khara at State Bank of India Corporate Centre, SBI Bhavan, Nariman Point, Mumbai.

Organ Donation Awareness Sessions/Events
Multi-city sensitization sessions/events on organ donation were organized face to face and on online platforms like Facebook, You Tube & zoom for participants belonging to the cities of Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Mumbai, Nagpur, Bengaluru, Belgaum, Pune, Goa, Trivandrum, Chennai & Hyderabad. Wide range of audiences were reached through the awarness sessions such as police officers, students (school & college), nurses & students pursuing BSc and MSc Nursing, doctors, NCC students, senior citizens, members of Golf Club, football players, safety & administration department employees, RTO staff, corporate staff, first aid course students, NSS & ECO club students, ICU & other hospital staff, physiotherapy students, engineering students, army officers, members at old age home, dialysis patients, caregivers & dialysis technicians, autorickshaw drivers, shop owners, Rotary club & Interact club members, NGOs & social workers, IMA doctors, Municipality staff, Anganwadi & Asha workers, followers of Goutam Buddha, students pursuing MSW & PhD, bank employees, Red cross members, blood bank staff, heart surgical patients, family members & relatives of donor families and general public.
In this quarter over25469 people were reached through 147 sessions.
Mass Awareness through Community Radio Program
l For mass mobilisation and awareness on organ and cornea donation, MOHAN Foundation partnered with various radio channels from across India, such as VIT Community Radio 90.8 MHz, Anna CR 90.4 MHz, Pasumai CR 90.4 FM, AIR Jaipur 101.2 FM, Radio City 91.9 FM, Chanderi Ki Awaaz 90.4 FM, AIR Jaipur 101.2 FM, Vidyavani CR 107.4 MHz, AIR Chennai FM Rainbow, AIR Jaipur 101.2 FM, Radio Risarch CR 90.8 FM, AIR Jaipur 101.2 FM, Radio Active 90.4 FM, AIR Jaipur 101.2 FM. Dramas and audio plays on organ donation were played during the radio programmes.
l All India Radio Chennai FM Rainbow broadcasted a special programme for its listeners on organ donation awareness. The FM channel covers the whole of Tamil Nadu state and is also available over the news on Air App, reaching out to huge number of listeners. The programme featured an interview of Ms. Ishwarya, Research Associate of MOHAN Foundation and Mr. Periyanayagam, Transplant Coordinator, MF.
MOHAN Foundation Organ Donation Helpline
MOHAN Foundation’s 24X7 helpline gives information on organ donation & transplantation, pan India in 8 languages. In this quarter, 1348 calls were facilitated by MOHAN Foundation’s executivesthat resulted in10 eye donations and one skin donation thus saving 11 lives.
Organ Donation Facilitated by MOHAN Foundation’s Transplant Coordinators
MOHAN Foundation’s Transplant Coordinators continued their efforts in maximizing the number of donations (eyes, organs & body) thus saving lives of many people in their respective states in this quarter. A Total of 191 lives across India were saved through 126 corneal donations, 36 kidney donations, 15 liver donations, 3 Pancreas donation,2 lung donations, 6 heart donations and 3 skin donations.
Case study
Mr. Vijay ( Name changed)
On November 12, 2021, Dr. Bhanu Chandra received a call from Global Hospital, Lakdikapul, Hyderabad. Mr. Vijay was 52 years old who worked as supervisor in a pharma unit at Warangal.
He was also an ex-ward member at Mulugu, Warangal district. On November 9, 2021, he sustained serious head injury in a road accident while driving a two-wheeler. He was taken to the nearest hospital but was later referred to a multi-specialty centre in view of the seriousness of his injuries.The family shifted the patient to Global Hospital, Lakdikapul where in-spite of the best treatment he did not respond and was declared brain-dead on November 12, 2021.
Dr. Bhanu Chandra met with the wife and son of Mr. Vijay and initiated counselling for organ donation. During the course of the day, he took four counselling sessions with them, but he did not give up. He relentlessly and patiently pursued the case and addressed their concerns. Finally, he got consent from them for organ donation.
Mr. Vijay’s liver, kidneys, skin and corneas were retrieved thus saving six lives.erabad informing him about a potential brain-dead donor in their ICU.
