3 Generations has supported the Ayni community throughout their challenges during the Covid epidemic, which hit their region hard. In addition to their recovery efforts they are facing hardships caused by political unrest. This has left them without the little governmental support that they previously received. Further, this area of Peru has been experiencing catastrophic flooding due to climate change. Many people continue to struggle to obtain basic necessities - clothing, food, natural gas, etc. Unfortunately due to all these challenges, the Ayni children still aren’t in the school, which was due to start at the beginning of March.
The funds received through this GlobalGiving / 3 Generations campaign supply much needed food, warm clothing, and school supplies. We have supported local efforts to educate children during and after the pandemic, as doing so (and teaching them English) directly impacts their ability to interact with tourists, one of their largest revenue streams for this community. In addition, small family farms have been reinstated (chickens, goats, guinea pigs) as well as help to support unique traditional weaving: a culturally significant art form that has been handed down through generations.
But this is just the beginning.
The Ayni people’s way of life is currently in danger: there is an urgent need to help them establish consistent income streams as well as preserve the art and culture of their region. Please support this project by continuing to donate to this campaign, share with friends and family, and follow us on social media. All future funds to this project will be spent on food, natural gas, warm clothing and school supplies.
