Solstice Ceremony 2023

By Alexa Telano | Development Associate

When the Covid-19 pandemic struck the indigenous communities in Chinchero, Peru, we created the Ayni Relief Fund to help support their needs within the community. The concept of Ayni, fundamental to the culture in Chincero, is based on reciprocity: if you help me, I will, in turn, help you. This cultural patrimony is needed everywhere today.

Ayni community leader Puma Quispe and several community members led a solstice ceremony in June. They graciously shared with us the meaning of the solstice and its importance to the Ayni way of life:

“Throughout the year, our father sun is in a constant cycle between the northern and southern hemispheres, and on the 21st of June, Father Sun is at its strongest in the divine masculine.

In the south, with the winter solstice, this is the time to rest, to be patient, to become wiser, and to clear processes that need to be liberated and transformed. In the north, with the summer solstice, it’s a time of abundance, starting projects, new habits, and discovering new gifts so we can become more efficient and achieve more by doing less.

In our ceremony and offering to Mother Earth, we generously set our intentions, ask Mother Earth, our spirit allies, and especially father sun for support, assistance, and guidance in this new cycle until the Equinox portal.”

Please support this project by donating to this campaign, sharing with friends and family, and following us on social media. All future funds for this project will be spent on food, natural gas, warm clothing, and school supplies. By supporting our Ayni Relief Fund, you will help an ancient society return to sustainable and traditional ways of life.
