A baby has been referred to us, mother has died in child birth, leaving a distrought father and his remaining children to care for the baby.
Our midwife taught the father and the 11 year old sister how to care for the baby and they get a supply of baby formula every month. The father struggles, he has been tortured in the war, has nightmares every night and he is depressed. The care for the baby rests on the shoulders of the little sister. She is struggling and the baby is becoming malnourished. We offer to temporarily take the baby into our care but they politely refuse. They love the baby and don't want to be separated. We spent more time in training the 11 year old to look after the baby in a better way. We offer the father counselling services which he accepts. Slowly the care for the baby improved .
We currently care for 43 babies.
The stories are sad but we are glad that we are able to provide formula for these babies so they can remain part of their families. Families come on a monthly basis to take a new supply of formula, our midwife checks the baby and makes sure the families provide the appropriate care for the baby. To make sure the families don't sell the formula we mark the tins and we take the empty tins back.
Thank you for your support which enables us to keep these babies alive!
