Babies at risk remain a huge problem in our area. Despite the relative peace in our area, the ripple effect of the past conflict is still ongoing. Many people are still displaced, health facilities have not re-opened and pre-natal care is almost not excisting. The result is that due to the lack of care, still many women die in childbirth, leaving behind a baby who is extremely vulnerable. In the past 9 month were were presented with 100 cases. We provide support for an average of 50 babies per month for the first six months of life. We sadly have to make difficult choices as the support needs for the above 6 months old is also pressing. But unfortunately our budget is just not sufficient to fulfill the demand.
Baby H. was a new born and his mother died during delivery. The care for the baby was left to the father and he was not able to provide the baby formula. When baby H. was 2 months old he was sick and severly malnourished and was admitted to the hospital. In the hospital he received special fortified baby milk and antibiotics and he slowly improved. When he was ready to be discharged the father was going to face the same problem as before the admission and the baby was at high risk of relapse.
The baby was referred to us and we have started to help this poor family. with a monthly supply of baby formula, bottle, nipples, soap, clothes and training for the father. We are conducting regular follow-up sessions and baby H. is currently doing very well. The father is implementing all that he has learned and is taking good care of his child.
We thank you for your support to which helps us to make a big difference in the life of motherless babies.
