# Fostering Pastry Passion #Showcasing Unlimited Possibilities

By Children Are Us Foundation | Cheer

This nationally recognized #ChineseCuisine Level C certification isn't just a testament to Wei's hard work; it's a badge of honor.

Wei has been working at the #LoveYouCoffee Fengshan City Hall branch for about a year and a half. When he first arrived, he was shy and lacked confidence. His elderly father always worried about Wei's future, hoping he would acquire a valuable skill to support himself.

Encouraged by his coworkers, Wei decided to take the Chinese Cuisine Level C Technician Certificate Exam. Every day, he practiced module questions and reviewed past exam papers . Even though he scored only 40 points in the first practice test, Wei didn't lose heart. He kept going, stacking up over 5 centimeters of completed exam papers. With unwavering determination, he scored above 80 points in the practice tests a month before the actual exam . Mastering the theory wasn't enough; he had to excel in the practical part too. Wei attended two full-day professional training sessions every week to sharpen his knife skills . After seven months of training, Wei participated in the exam, achieving an impressive score of 91 in the theory and passing the practical exam with flying colors.

Children are Us  Foundation, in its 28 years of existence, has served as a platform for the realization of the dreams of over a million individuals with intellectual disabilities through its bakery, restaurants, and sheltered workshops. With more than 30 training locations across Taiwan, carefully designed and safe working environments are provided. Tailored tools and work processes are developed for each individual with intellectual disabilities, guiding them to acquire valuable skills.

Children Are Us Foundation's Tucheng Sheltered Workshop, "Tucheng Little Angels Store," had a lively opening on the morning of May 23 at the Tucheng Yuanhe Youth Community Residence. New Taipei City Government's Labor Bureau Director Chen Rui-jia, Lyle Fu Operation Manager Li Shi-hung, and Children Are Us Foundation Chairman Hsiao Shu-chen were all present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Following the ceremony, the guests transformed into customers and purchased products, experiencing the warmest and most professional service provided by individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The Tucheng Sheltered Workshop, known as the "Tucheng Little Angels Store," marks the first collaboration with the Lyle Fu "Lai Xian Sheng Mr. Hi" brand. It has been established as a supermarket-style complex store primarily focusing on fresh produce. Additionally, the convenience store offers Children Are Us Foundation's baked goods. This makes the "Tucheng Little Angels Store" your "community best friend," adhering to a "one-stop shopping" service with the motto "we'll prepare your dinner when you get home." This partnership aims to make Lyle Fu a friendly neighbor to the residents of the Yuanhe Youth Community Residence.

Chairman Hsiao Shu-chen of the Children Are Us Foundation mentioned in her speech that sheltered workshop employees, after thorough training, can handle tasks such as cashiering and restocking with competence. In recent years, the Foundation has been diligently enhancing the skills of individuals with intellectual disabilities, including assisting them in obtaining baking and retail licenses. A store like this can provide employment for 12 individuals with intellectual disabilities, and Chairman Hsiao expressed hopes for more collaborations with Lyle Fu, stating, "When there's a staff shortage, we can come to work at any time!"

Children Are Us Foundation started with baking and expanded into the food and beverage industry. Today, to offer more job choices for individuals with intellectual disabilities, they have collaborated with Lyle Fu convenience stores to establish complex supermarket-style stores. Through professional training, individuals with intellectual disabilities can be self-reliant. Li Shi-hung, Project Manager at Lyle Fu Operation, mentioned that when he first started as a store manager 25 years ago, there were already employees with disabilities. Apart from being less familiar with operating cash registers, they could complete their assigned tasks well. The "Tucheng Little Angels Store" not only provides employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities but also brings greater convenience to the residents of the youth community, promoting inclusivity and prosperity within the community.
