Advancing Food Security Through Sustainable Agriculture on BARKA Land

By Peace SARAMBE | Executive Director

The BARKA Foundation is actively cultivating its land during the current rainy season, with men and women working together over a three-month period to grow corn and beans—essential crops that will help nourish hundreds of individuals.
This initiative is especially impactful for internally displaced individuals who have lost access to their homes and farmland due to insecurity. BARKA’s agricultural site has become a vital resource, offering both sustenance and economic opportunity. Many women earn a modest weekly income through their work on the land, helping to safeguard their dignity and livelihoods.

Water access remains central to all BARKA Foundation projects. At Lycée Polyvalent Communal de FADA—serving more than 3,000 students and staff—BARKA is installing a solar-powered water pumping system to ensure the availability of clean drinking water. This meaningful advancement is made possible by the generosity of a dedicated donor, a former peace corps volunteer in Burkina Faso, whose support we gratefully acknowledge.

Looking ahead, BARKA plans to drill a second well on its property, enabling expansion of the garden and continued agricultural production during the dry season.
We extend our deepest gratitude to BARKA’s supporters and friends, whose ongoing contributions make our mission and vision achievable.

Barka!
