ADVANCING ACCESS TO CLEAN DRINKING WATER

By Peace SARAMBE | Executive Director

The BARKA Foundation is pleased to share recent achievements in advancing access to clean water in Fada N’Gourma, located in the East of Burkina Faso.

1. Clean Water Access at Lycée Communal Polyvalent de Fada

BARKA successfully improved drinking water access for more than 3,000 students and teachers at Lycée Communal de Fada. The school’s manual well pump was replaced with a solar-powered pumping system connected to a water tank and multiple taps. This upgrade ensures reliable, sustainable access to clean water. The project has been warmly welcomed by the school administration and the student body, who now benefit from a healthier learning environment.

2. Women’s and IDP Garden Project

BARKA continues to monitor and strengthen the community garden project, which utilizes a drilled well to irrigate vegetable plots cultivated by women and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The garden provides nutritious food for families and generates small-scale income opportunities. To expand the gardening area and include more women eager to participate, an additional well is needed to increase water supply and employment opportunities.
