A visit to Maternity ward at Minna general hospital
Our STEM girls in learning mode
Timeout4Africa Education and Sports Foundation continues to expose our STEM girls to STEM experiences. In October 2021, Mawo School STEM Girls went on an excursion to Minna general hospital maternity ward in Minna, Nigeria.
The Maternity ward is also called a health care clinic located in the Minna Metropolis on old airport rd. The STEM Girls leart about the types of health care workers who work at the clinics, which included doctors, nurses, midwifes, community healthcare extension workers and also laboratory technicians. They learnt about services offered like antenatal care, general medical services, baby deliveries, immunization and family planning, drugs dispenser and treatment of malnourished children.
The day was full with new experiences and introduction to medical equipment like stethoscope, weighting scale and all their uses.
The entire process ignited the girls' love for STEM. Precious, one of the STEM girls on the trip stated, "It was an interesting and educative tip and now we all have an idea of the great work being performed at the hospital.
At the end of the excursion, the girls took group photographs with staff of the clinic expressing thanks for having them and gaining such experience. The girls subsequently had lunch and returned to school.
