This month, we are proud to share that Be Enriched has received the King’s Award for Voluntary Service 2025, the highest honour a UK voluntary group can receive. This award recognises the dedication of our volunteers, the impact of our food projects across South London, and the strength of the community we have built together.
It is a huge moment for our charity, but it is also a reminder of why this work matters so much. As food insecurity, rising living costs and isolation continue to affect so many people, we know that our projects are needed more than ever.
Community Canteens: More Than a Meal
Over the last three months, our Community Canteens have continued to be a vital source of food, friendship and stability for people across South London.
Since you last heard from us, we have:
All of this has been powered by our amazing volunteers. Our canteens are about much more than food. They are warm, welcoming spaces where people can sit down, share a meal, and feel part of something. In our 2025 Community Canteen Survey, 89% of guests said they had made new friends at our canteens, helping to reduce isolation and support mental and emotional wellbeing.
One recent highlight was Memories Kitchen, a beautiful community storytelling project that brought together local residents and Story Catchers to share food memories, recipes and lived experiences from across Wandsworth. Through conversations, interviews and a final community feast, the project explored how food connects us to culture, identity and each other. We were proud to welcome these conversations into our canteens and see stories come to life around the table.
A Little More Light: Patrick’s Story
We also want to share the story of one of our Food Bus customers, Patrick, because it shows just how much your support can mean in someone’s daily life.
Patrick, 54, has lived in Tooting his whole life. After years of caring for his mother, her death and a cycling accident left him struggling with poor health, anxiety and depression. Living alone and relying on savings, he found it harder and harder to afford food and keep going day to day.
When he first came across our Food Bus, he found more than an affordable place to shop. He found friendly faces, conversation, and a reason to get out each week.
As Patrick told us:
“It’s a bit of light and joy. When so much in the world feels dark, the Food Bus brings a glimmer, hope and kindness. You feel part of something.”
Thank You and How You Can Help
Your support helps make all of this possible.
It helps us keep our canteens open, rescue good food, serve nourishing meals, keep the Food Bus on the road, and create spaces where people can feel welcome, connected and cared for.
If you are able to donate, share our work, or tell others about Be Enriched, it would make a real difference.
Thank you for standing with us and helping us build healthier, more connected communities across South London.
With gratitude,
The Be Enriched Team
