Diapers for Children in Poverty in Guatemala

"It sounded like it was hailing. My husband went up to the roof to check and realized it was volcanic rocks." 

~ Rachel, one of our Diaper Drop partners in Guatemala. She lives about 15 miles away from Fuego Volcano. 

On Sunday, Volcan de Fuego erupted in Guatemala City, Guatemala. With hot lava and spewing ash, the current death toll is over 70, and more than 2 million people have been affected. The eruption at Fuego was so explosive, hot debris was sent down the steep volcanic sides at hundreds of miles per hour- much faster than people and cars could outrun. In addition to the direct lava/debris flow, the clouds of sand, gravel, ash and lava have impacted and injured many people. 

Casa Jackson  is one of our Diaper Drops, and is also a registered hospital. Casa Jackson provides intensive residential survival, medical, and long-term recovery-care to severely malnourished infants and children from across Guatemala. In addition, Casa Jackson volunteers and staff educate villages and families in proper health, hygiene, and nutrition practices.

They have now found themselves in the middle of this volcanic crisis, treating children with 1st, 2nd, and third degree burns. They're also taking in children who have been separated from their families. They are focusing on emergency response and meeting basic needs, which includes diapers. 

We are their primary supplier of cloth diapers, and with this crisis the need for reliable, sustainable diapers has increased dramatically.
