"BecakTerus" 20872 The story so far

By Gregory Stretton | Project leader

Just a quick video blog post
Just a quick video blog post

Our Project "Becakterus" started on the 28th of September 2015. Battle with the elements, roads, mountains, hills and hopefully not too many blisters have commenced. A Plucky Brit by the name of Scott Thompson is undertaking his most arduous fundraising feat ever! 'Becakterus'. Becakterus will be Scott Thompson’s third ultra charity marathon. In 2010 he ran 250 km in the Sahara for three days, and in 2012 he took it to the next level by running a total of 1,250 km from Bali to Jakarta in four weeks. The marathon from Bali to Jakarta two years ago contributed a great amount of funds to help Yayasan Anak Cinta Bangsa (YCAB) build several Rumah Belajar  (Learning House) for unprivileged children in Bali and other provinces in Indonesia. There are millions of impoverished families in Indonesia that try desperately hard to feed, clothe and educate their children, the Learning Houses provide a safe and happy environment for the children to gain basic Education, English, IT, and soft skills.

Scott Thompson, and his trusty Rickshaw 'THE FLYING MERAH PUTI' are currently on day 10 of this megga challenge, So far he has endured blisters and saddle sores, has breathed in litres of smoke from the forest fires that have really took its toll on him, he has negotiated countless dangerous encounters on Indonesia's roads, heavy rain sometimes, and blisteringly hot sun for the rest, but today....on day 10, Mr Scott Thompson has just passed the distance for the Guinness World Record in the longest Rickshaw ride catagory, a magnificent feat! but better than that! it will signify that Scott is half way to his goal of reaching the Nations Capital Jakarta where he should get a hero's welcome and the completion of a ride of 2,600 kilometers whilst raising much needed funds for YCAB Foundation, who will keep on Educating thousands more underprivilaged children to add to the over 61,000 children who now have Education and jobs because of YCAB Foundations existence. It is this writers, and YCAB Foundation's privilage to have been Blessed by the tireless hard work and fundraising endevours of Mr Scott Thompson. And to everyone who has ever given their time or money to support YCAB through our 16 years in helping over 2.9 million people. We would like to say TWO MILLION NINE HUNDRED THOUSAND 'THANK YOU's' but ONE very special THANK YOU to you Mr SCOTT THOMPSON. it has been, and alway's will be our Honour to have you by our side.
