Since the official project launch, BILD activities have continued as planned despite the rainy season in Malawi.
In December, local trainers trained 20 new young sports leaders, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to drive community-based sports initiatives sustainably. The average age of the young people was 23 years. A survey showed that 11 of the YSLs were not employed nor in school, thereby highlighting how significant the training is for their personal development. Local trainers emphasised building an inclusive mindset and creating leaders who champion equality.
A total of 2,658 children were engaged between October and December, 2,358 children through 48 sports mini events (these take place in schools for a small number of children) and 300 children through festivals of activities (these take place at a centrally identified hub school for up to 100 children). More festivals of activity lead by the young sports leaders are planned over the coming months to allow even more children to participate in the benefits of physical activity.
This would not have been possible without generous donations and we are most grateful for your support. THANK YOU!
