Burro Buddy Update

Thank you for your continued support of our "Become a Burro Buddy" project. Everyone is doing well, but three of our senior burros gave us a bit of a scare recently. They seem to have picked up a bug of some sort. Reno was the first to show signs of lethargy and a declining interest in her food. Then Claude and Ethel showed similar, all be it vague, symptoms. The good news is that Reno's blood test showed no abnormalities. We ran a serum amyloid A test on all three. Both Reno and Ethel showed no infection. Claude's original test came back high, but after a course of antibiotics, he is now clear of infection too. We are happy to say that all three are back to their old selves. Your support of the Burro Buddy Project helps us provide them with the veterinary care they need.

Charlie and his two "angels" Kris and Kelly arrived a year ago from a local rescue that was downsizing. They integrated well into the larger burro group, but this winter Charlie has had a tough time maintaining his weight. Blood tests failed to offer an explanation. Our veterinarian examined his teeth and found no issues. At only five years of age Charlie should not have any issues maintaining a healthy weight. So, he and his angels were moved to an adjacent corral in hopes that a smaller group size will work better for him. Weight gain is challenging during the winter, but we hope to see progress when spring arrives.

This month we are promoting Bowling for Burros. It has been fun highlighting the different members of our Burro Brigade on our social media. Each of our burros has such a distinct personality. We hope you enjoy this photo of Jack and our Honorary Burro, Sonny.

Thank you for supporting our amazing burros. Your support allows us to provide them with the highest quality care.
