Your generosity transforms lives: thank you to our American friends!
Dear donors, dear friends,
Behind every child who returns to the classroom, every girl who continues her education despite poverty, and every school that improves its welcoming conditions lies the same thing: the hope of building a better future.
From September to November, thanks to the generosity of our Honorary President and that of our American donors brought together by GlobalGiving, ONG Éducation et Développement (ONG ED) continued its commitment to education in the rural communities of Benin, particularly in the Couffo and Atlantique departments.
Your support enables us to act on the obstacles that prevent so many children from going to school and succeeding: complex administrative procedures, destitute families, empty stomachs, dilapidated buildings, and learning difficulties.
On behalf of our team, the students, teachers, families, and communities, we express our profound gratitude. Your gesture goes far beyond financial aid: it gives children the means to learn, progress, and envision their future. Investing in people means building tomorrow. Thanks to you, solidarity crosses oceans to become concrete and lasting help for Beninese children.
Over 17,000 students impacted: a commitment with multifaceted effects
During this period, our interventions reached more than 17,000 students by preparing for the back-to-school season and improving learning conditions in several schools. For the sake of transparency, please note that this figure corresponds to all students in the institutions benefiting from our actions, rather than individuals who all received direct individual assistance.
Our conviction is simple: poverty must never deprive a child of their right to education. We therefore act on several fronts simultaneously: facilitating administrative procedures, supporting girls' schooling, improving school nutrition, rehabilitating equipment, bringing water closer to schools, and supporting struggling students.
Because sending a child to school is not enough. We must also provide them with the conditions to stay there, learn, and succeed.
Concrete achievements in the service of children
A. Opening the doors of school through administrative support A missing birth certificate or identity document can block school registration or access to an official exam. To remove this obstacle, ONG ED has:
For a vulnerable family, this is a genuine relief. For a child, it is recognition of their existence and paves the way for their educational journey.
B. Supporting girls and better feeding students The education of girls is one of the most powerful levers against poverty and inequality. Yet, due to a lack of resources, some families must forego essential school expenses.
Thanks to you, 175 girls received school uniforms to enroll or continue their studies. During the pre-term period, our team also visited 27 public primary schools to help improve the meals served in school canteens. A child who eats their fill concentrates better and learns better.
Supporting a girl is investing in an entire community: by continuing her education, she acquires knowledge, gains independence, and will be able to contribute more to the economic and social development of her family.
C. More reliable equipment and water close to schools Learning well requires usable furniture, functioning facilities, and access to water. Notably, we repaired school desks and benches in several schools as well as the water pumping system at CEG1 in Aplahoué.
Two major water supply projects are also underway:
As of the date of this report, these projects are in their final phase; their commissioning depends on the final technical steps. Once operational, they will facilitate access to water and improve hygiene in the schools concerned. We will send you photographs and final reports as soon as the work is completed.
D. Supporting every student toward success Because every child deserves a chance, ONG ED financed remedial and catch-up classes in two general secondary schools (collèges). These enable struggling students to consolidate their knowledge, make up for gaps, and better prepare for their assessments.
Our ambition: a more inclusive education, where a learning difficulty condemns no one to failure.
Persistent needs: let us continue this work together
Progress encourages us, but the needs remain great. As our actions become known, other schools, families, and communities reach out to us. Girls are still waiting for uniforms and supplies. Children still encounter administrative obstacles. Schools lack water, equipment, and an environment conducive to studying.
Your support therefore remains essential to consolidate achievements, complete ongoing projects, and respond to the most urgent requests.
Every girl who continues her education is one more chance to break the cycle of poverty. Every student supported progresses further. Every functional infrastructure can serve the well-being of multiple generations.
Thank you for building the future of Benin with us!
Dear generous American friends, your generosity funds much more than supplies, administrative procedures, or water facilities. It removes the obstacles that prevent children from learning, supports fragile families, and opens new horizons for rural communities.
We measure the responsibility that your trust represents. We are committed to rigorously using the mobilized resources, closely monitoring each project, and communicating transparently about the results.
On behalf of ONG Éducation et Développement, the students, teachers, parents, and beneficiary communities, we extend our most sincere thanks.
Thank you for believing in our children. Thank you for supporting their families. Thank you for transforming your generosity into concrete opportunities for the future of Benin.
We look forward to sharing the photographs and final reports of our water supply projects with you soon, as soon as they are commissioned.
Together, let us continue to make education a real opportunity for more and more children.
With our deep gratitude and respectful friendship.
