Rômulo was eleven years old when he began to experience headache when he forced his eyes to read, which led him to conclude that he needed to wear glasses. The ophthalmologist said the pain would pass in a few days. However, as the symptoms persisted, he saw a medical specialist who diagnosed an optic nerve glioma and immediately referred him for surgery.
After the procedure, he was informed that he would have to undergo chemotherapy. That’s when Rômulo came to GRAACC.
According to Rômulo’s mother, the support he received at the hospital was essential in providing a more pleasant stay. “I found a very human team at GRAACC; entertainment is part of the treatment, just as psychological help and teaching,” he recalls.
Treatment lasted two and a half years, which Rômulo describes as a life experience. “It was a period of much learning and growth,” says the patient.
Just as Rômulo, many other children and adolescents get cured from cancer at the GRAACC Hospital. This is only made possible because people like you believe and contribute to that work, so that it may continue.
