Renan 15 years old when he was surprised by the diagnosis of bone cancer in ankle. During a entire year, he underwent several chemotherapy sessions, had surgery, and had his left leg partially amputated for removal of the tumor.
According to him, the time he was in treatment at the GRAACC Hospital was very important to decide what he would choose to study when he went to college.
"I realized how important the doctor is, so I would like to care for people just like they took care of me" he said. It was when Renan decided that he would study medicine and be an orthopedic doctor.
Even during the treatment, Renan tried hard not to stop studying and at age 17 he was accepted into the medical course at the State University of Montes Claros (Unimontes).
Renan currently visits the hospital every 40 days for follow-up care only.
