In all these years of our work, the number of undergraduate students of any health sciences stream - (medicine, nursing, physiotherapy and more) - attending our courses has not been as high as it should. Earlier we knew that faculty, professionals, and residents themselves not having had much exposure, it was natural that students would not have much of a chance.
And yet, when medical students did attend our workshops, they always learnt very quickly. Often doing better than their seniors!
We thought that with the availability of our online courses and our liberal institutional subscription plans, things would go better, but this has not happened yet
We hit upon this plan:
a) We will raise funds from the public, to cover the cost of providing access to students
b) We will ask students to donate a very small sum - Rs 250/- (that is just about $4.00) to us - more as a commitment to starting and completing the courses
c) We will motivate them to learn quickly, offering prizes if they finish the courses within in a month and score well
During the September challenge in GlobalGiving we raised over $3000. We will use all of it to help students to join our courses - we now have funds to take in around a hundred students. We have already had some enrolling
We are also raising funds within India for this and hope to make this a long term project.
Do wish us luck!
