Dear Friends,
Each year, thousands of Afghans attend AIL health education and hundreds benefit from in-depth reproductive health trainings. So far in 2016, over 79,000 patients have received treatment through AIL clinics and over 50,000 people have participated in some form of health education (with over 5,000 of them being reproductive health patients). When people are healthy and can take care of themselves, they are more empowered to learn, work and help their communities.
AIL offers in-depth health workshops that will be starting up soon. Hundreds of female patients attended these last year, learning about women’s health and reproductive matters. The topics are diverse and include nutrition, breast feeding, family planning, hygiene and environment sanitation, the importance of ante and post natal care and newborn and post partum care.
The women that attend these workshops share what they learn with their husbands, families and friends spreading the benefits of knowledge widely across communities. One young girl who participated in a Reproductive Health Workshop, shared this: “My name is Afsana and I am a student in school. My mother gave birth to many children because she did not have knowledge about women’s issues. She gave birth to a child every year and this caused many health problems for her and her children. Some of my brothers and sisters haven’t grown that much because of malnutrition. Today, I am going to transfer everything I learned to my mother so she can live more safely. I thank AIL for giving us the chance to live safely and prevent too many births. I am very happy that women can now participate in such programs and take care of themselves and are getting more information about these issues. When I share what I learned with my mother at home, she is very happy that I am aware of these things before I get married.”
Thank you for your continued support.
