Nigeria has one of the largest youth populations in the world, yet millions of children grow up without guidance or positive role models. Many face poverty, violence, and lack of parental care, putting them at risk of dropping out of school or engaging in harmful behavior. This project will connect 1,000 vulnerable children with trained mentors through a Big Sister/Big Brother program. Urgent support is needed to provide safe spaces, guidance, and mentorship this year.
Many children in Nigeria grow up without stable family support, leaving them vulnerable to peer pressure, street life, and exploitation. With limited role models, they struggle to stay in school and make positive life choices. Poverty and unstable home environments contribute to rising rates of dropout, child labor, and early involvement in risky behavior.
The program will connect children with trained mentors who provide guidance, tutoring, and emotional support. Sessions will include reading, life skills, group activities, and safe community gatherings. Mentors will act as positive role models, encouraging children to continue their education, build self-confidence, and develop practical skills to face daily challenges.
Children with consistent guidance are more likely to finish school, avoid crime, and grow into responsible adults. Mentorship creates a cycle of positive influence, as today's mentees can become tomorrow's mentors. By building stronger bonds between youth and mentors, this project lays the foundation for healthier families and safer communities in Nigeria.
