Dear Donors,
When the women of the red light district who were making sanitary pads were discriminated against by a landlord, no one was deterred to find the right home for the project.
The exciting news to share is that New Light signed a three year lease to house MUKTI, the project also known as Empowering Women Period. Mukti is the name chosen by the women for their sanitary pad enterprise which, no surprise, means liberation and freedom.
The social enterprise run by women who had suffered through the horrors of trafficking is now walking distance from shelters and safe homes run by New Light in the Kalighat red light district. The new home for MUKTI is on a well-lt and well-connected road. The rent is a little higher than the prior location but it has an independent entrance, a separate power meter, easy vehicular access, and two toilets.
The multiple benefits of women being employed making sanitary pads, is that women who have been abused are now making a living free of slavery and at the same time, your support to buy pads for girls will provide them with the ability to consistently attend school. This win-win intitiave is one that belongs to women!
For $12 a month, you can support a vulnerable girl and women's employment.
It seems the journey has just begun for Mukti and it's going to be beautiful along the way considering the company we keep.
Thank you,
