When a mother is HIV+, in 90% of cases, her newborn will contract HIV during birth, and the other 10% of the time, the newborn will contract HIV through breastfeeding. However, providing proper HIV preventative treatment prior to childbirth and during breastfeeding can prevent HIV in 100% of cases.
All of the women who underwent treatment during their pregnancies have continued testing within our program for themselves and their newborns. All of these tests have returned negative, an incredible feat for our Born Free of HIV initiative.
Our program would not be possible without your help. Your donations have an astronomical impact on our Born Free of HIV initiative. With a donation of $25, you would be supporting HIV testing for five women in the clinic- we do more than 3,000 tests a year. With a donation of $50, you would be supporting every single laboratory test for a mother during her prenatal period, which includes an ultrasound.
The impact of our Born Free of HIV program expanding with your help, as well as giving newborns a chance to enter the world HIV free. One of our patients at the Hope Center Clinic shared that access to preventative treatment saved her child’s life. We thank you for your continuous support.
