We had a major win this month: timber giant Samling withdrew its lawsuit against our local partners SAVE Rivers! For two years we have been fighting this legal attack, and for two years SAVE Rivers has been silenced while waiting for a resolution.
Samling's legal attack has backfired spectacularly — they originally sought an apology, an injunction stopping SAVE Rivers from reporting community claims under their #StopTheChop campaign, and over $1 million in damages. They failed to obtain these demands and the lawsuit only drew more attention to these issues. SAVE Rivers rose to the challenge and our network is stronger than ever.
We are now heading upriver for some much needed time in the forest. Thank you again for all of your incredible support.
In solidarity and in thanks,
Jettie Word, Director.
