Our Environmental Education Clubs focus fun activities outside of the classroom to build on the natural curiosity children have in nature into scientific minds, with the skills to observe, develop a hypothesis and test that hypothesis. Another important skill is to then present one’s findings and those skills and confidence in presentation can be developed in a number of ways.

Thanks to your generous support, we were able to collaborate with Moreomaoto Primary School to enter a World Migratory Bird competition run by BirdLife Botswana and hosted in the village of Rakops. The theme of the competition was Light Pollution, and the children performed a poem written by our very own Community Outreach and Education Officer, Walona Sehularo, a man of many talents. The children came away with first prize, making everyone burst with pride and will have given the children a huge boost in confidence.

We value our partnerships, those with the schools we work, our funders and of course other NGO’s working in the same sector from which we can learn, so when the opportunity comes our way to work them, we go out of our way to make sure it happens. Coaching for Conservation is an organisation that spreads conservation messaging, amongst other things, through sport and in partnership with them, a lesson was conducted at Moreomaoto Primary School. The session was aimed at highlighting the ecological significance of vultures, whilst also incorporating team-building activities that simulated the survival strategies of various wild animals found in Botswana, such as wild dogs. As part of their assignment from the day, the children adapted their winning song from the World Migratory Bird Day competition to feature vultures. We think it is awesome, please take a moment to take a look.
