We, lndian Association for the Blind (lAB), are based in South India and are a well-known non-profit organization working to provide education, employment, training and rehabilitation for the visually challenged from rural areas. It was established in 1985 by visually challenged activist Late Mr. S.M.A.Jinnah and a group of like-minded visually challenged people. Till date, more than 11200 youths have been benefited by us and now hold prestigious positions in society.
Thanks to GlobalGiving, we have received donations from 16 philanthropists till date. Totally, this project has raised $1209. This huge sum has been highly beneficial for us in moving closer to our dreams and for our children, in moving closer to their dreams of having good quality educational materials.
These donations will be really useful for helping our students have a memorable educational experience and for guiding them in the right way of approcahing the study material. Our student D. Vetrivel Murugan remarks, "Till my 5th grade, I used to ask someone else to read to me and I always needed someone to guide me. After coming here, I have become very independent and can now read Braille comfortably thanks to the coaching and the material given at IAB."
