By Allison Conroe | Senior Associate, Disaster Response
Since we were last in touch, your donation has helped make possible three rounds of grants supporting communities affected by flooding in Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo. Together, these efforts are helping to restore access to education, provide mental health support, improve water and sanitation services, rebuild livelihoods, and build more resilient and vibrant communities well into the future.
Your support also helped ensure local leaders like Fundo Casa Socioambiental had a seat at the global table during the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém. Through their coordination of the Global South House at COP30, Fundo Casa Socioambiental connected Global South leaders around the world to share strategies and collectively advance disaster prevention through climate action in this critical space.
This work is especially timely as their home communities continue to face ongoing disaster impacts exacerbated by climate change. New waves of flooding recently inundated the São Paulo and Minas Gerais regions in late February, deepening existing challenges and leaving thousands without access to food or clean water. Due to this, these disaster-affected communities need representation in these spaces now more than ever.
Thanks to your ongoing commitment and quick action, a recent sixth round of emergency grant funding allowed local partners to swiftly bring aid to their communities and to transition into building long-term resilience. Here is some of the work your donation has helped to fund:
Because of your support, community-led organizations can respond quickly to urgent needs and sustain critical recovery and resilience-building efforts for communities whose lives are repeatedly disrupted by devastating floods worsened by climate change. We cannot thank you enough.
With gratitude,

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
