Education Equals Empowerment

By Margherita Chiarolanza | Development Manager

“ISF has been helping me achieve my goal by giving me a second chance at education. If I had not joined ISF’s Education Programme, I would be working in a garment factory with my older sister.”

Vatey went to a primary school in Phnom Penh, but had to drop out because her family couldn’t afford the cost of her education anymore. Her dream of going to school seemed out of reach until she found ISF and joined its life-changing Education Programme in 2013.

Now with the support from ISF, Vatey was not only able to graduate from high school, but also continue onto university studying Human Resources in Phnom Penh.

Alongside her studies, she is completing an internship in Administration here at ISF, as a way to become more familiar with the workplace environment and supplement her family’s income. After human resources, she is planning to obtain a degree in marketing as well!  She hopes eventually to work for Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce and will be working hard to improve her English-language skills to guarantee success.

ISF continues to support Vatey by providing regular follow-up on progress as well as guidance whenever needed. She understands and appreciates what ISF means in her life. It’s the difference between a low-wage existence – and the promise of a good job and livelihood.

Can you help us support more students like Vatey?

After the pandemic, ISF is facing a funding shortfall which is threatening the education of our vulnerable students and access to the programme to future students. This holiday season, we aim to raise enough funds for 50 out-of-school children to join our Catch-Up Education Programme next year. These children have never been to school before or were forced to drop out due to extreme poverty. Can you support ISF once again and help us achieve our goal for the new year? Please, donate now if you can. Every dollar counts and goes such a long way in Cambodia. We would be grateful if you could help us spread the word by sharing our important message with your friends and family.

Thank you so much again for everything you have already done for ISF and helping to create pathways out of poverty for our students and their families. We simply couldn’t do it without you.
