Dear Donors,
Thank you for supporting this project to create a breast milk bank for mothers in Nigeria who have lost both breasts to cancer. Your support will ensure infants have access to safe, nutrient-rich breast milk, protecting their health and supporting early growth.
Each year, over 28,000 women in Nigeria are diagnosed with breast cancer, many undergoing surgeries that remove both breasts. Without breast milk, their babies face malnutrition and higher risk of illness. Infant formula is expensive and often unsafe due to poor water quality, particularly in rural areas. Mothers are left powerless as their newborns go without the best nutrition.
This project will establish a centralized milk bank where donor milk is screened, pasteurized, and stored under safe conditions. Hospitals and clinics will distribute milk to infants whose mothers cannot breastfeed, providing reliable nutrition and reducing health risks. Mothers will also receive guidance on infant care and nutrition, helping families regain stability.
Long term, healthier infants will grow stronger, and mothers will have peace of mind knowing their babies are nourished. While some support has been received, it is not yet enough to launch the program. With your continued generosity, we can make this milk bank a reality and safeguard the lives of newborns across Nigeria.
With thanks,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
