10.1.17 “Faith in Music”: A Workshop with Albert Beger.
Albert Beger is a saxophonist, composer and improviser and a lecturer in the Jerusalem Academy of Music. The workshop focused on “extended techniques”. Albert exposed the participants to a world of self-exploration with the instrument, creating new and original colors, getting “outside of the box”, playing out of enjoyment and passion. We examined how we can use the technique of developing melodies or written creations – combining a written work with improvisation. Later, Albert and a pianist from the workshop improvised together and moved everyone. We left the workshop inspired and willing to experiment in extended techniques with our instruments!
17.1.17 “Faith in Music”: A Workshop with the Luiz Duo.
The Luiz Duo – Blanche Inacio from France (contrabass) and Kristina Esch from Germany (clarinet). Students in the Jerusalem Academy of Music. The workshop focused on arrangement abilities and development of a known existing melody. The participants were divided into diverse work groups including musicians of different cultures, musical backgrounds and instruments. All of the groups received the same melody and were asked to interpret it and express it through the group members’ playing. After half an hour of working in groups they assembled in order to hear the products. The groups worked together and got to different and unique performances, characterizing the group members. Afterwards, Kristina and Blanche presented their own arrangement of the melody.
24.1.17 "Faith in Music": Workshop with Shahar Regev
Shahar Regev studies currently interdisciplinary composition at the Jerusalem Music and Dance Academy and beside this she actively performing with the cello, the piano and singing.
The workshop based on "Music and Movies". Shahar prepared several movies without the sound of different genres (animation, action, comic etc.) and showed them to the participant who had to imagine music that could fit the for them unknown scene. After collecting several ideas each was performed by the participants. It turned out that it's not that simple as it sounds, having an idea, realizing your imagination and giving exact instructions to the players. Everyone worked with a great joy and lots of fun.
In the end we got to repaint a picture with our instruments. Shahar showed one picture to the player who had to explain with the sound of the instrument what was shown in the picture. A great ending for a really interesting and communicative workshop.
All in all it was a wonderful experience for everyone, we didn't just use our instruments, we had to work with our imaginations, creativity, languages and music.
